10351Jack Dryden has been chosen as Parry McCluer High School’s Senior of the Month for September 2014.  He is the son of Dr. and Mrs. Brent Dryden of Buena Vista.

Jack has been an active member of the Cross Country team for six years. He was a member of the 2011 team that was Region Champion and State Runner Up and the 2012 team that was Region Runner Up and State Runner Up. Individually, Jack was All District Runner each year at PMHS.  In 2013, he was All Region and  All State. Jack has played soccer for four years at PMHS. Last year he was All Region and Second Team All State.

Jack is just as active in his community as his school. He is an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and participates in the Young Men’s Youth Group at church. Additionally, he earned his Eagle Scout Award. To earn this, he completed a service project to repair a concrete public staircase in Buena Vista.  Jack states that the things that are important to him include music, helping other people and, of course, his family and friends.

Jack is highly respected by the administration, faculty and coaches at Parry McCluer High School.  Coach Chris Pollukis stated, “Jack often demands more from himself than what is expected by those directing him.  When faced with adversity he does not look for and blame outside causes.  His focus is completely on what he himself can do to remedy the situation.  He is an ethical young man, directed more by intrinsic motivations, who does not do things simply because of rewards or consequences.”

In addition to his extracurricular activities, Jack maintains an “A” average, while taking college and AP courses, and is a member of National Honor Society.  Jack was elected Class President his freshman and sophomore years and served as Vice President as a junior. As a sophomore he was selected to represent PMHS at the HOBY conference. After graduation, Jack plans to serve a two year mission for his church. After his mission, Jack wants to pursue a college degree, perhaps in the sciences.
