Buena Vista School Board Announces
Superintendent Search

On January 13, 2025—The Buena Vista School Board announced that it will begin the process of hiring a new superintendent by seeking public input on qualifications.

The school board has created a survey related to superintendent criteria, which is available at https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/BuenaVistaSearch25 and on the home page of the division web site. Hard copies of the survey will also be available at the school board administration offices, at each school and The City of Buena Vista Treasurer’s office. Completed hard copies of the survey may be turned in at the BVCPS School Board Administration office. The deadline for surveys to be completed is February 10, 2025.

"The appointment of a new superintendent is one of the most important responsibilities entrusted to a school board, and it is our priority to ensure that the public has an active role in this selection process," stated Teresa Ellison the Chair of the School Board. "We encourage parents, students, staff and residents to participate by completing the survey."

The school board selected the Virginia School Boards Association (VSBA) to assist the board with the superintendent search.

Superintendent´s Message

It is an honor and privilege to serve as the Superintendent of Buena Vista City
Public Schools. I look forward to continuing to work with the parents, guardians,
students, staff, and community members of this proud city.

While there are many changes in education, such as the implementation of the
Virginia Literacy Act, we will continue to focus on building positive relationships with
our students and families. Our staff is highly invested in our students, and is always
willing to go above and beyond to meet their needs.

Our theme for the year is, “Be a Blue in all you do”. This theme focuses on making
the right choices at school and in our community. The 2024-25 school year will
present many challenges, but I am confident that our school division will continue to
excel. I look forward to a great year, and hope to see you at one of our schools.

“Go Blue!”

Tony Francis, Ed.D.
Superintendent
Buena Vista City Public Schools
