BVCPS Says Thank You to Our Police Officers

The nation thanked them the day before and on Thursday, January 10, Buena Vista City Public Schools honored them once more.

At the Parry McCluer Middle School's Blue Hole Cafe, the Buena Vista City Police Department was treated to a full lasagna lunch with salad and dessert. It was a small thing we could do to show the brave men and women how much we appreciate their support.

"It's a thank you back to them for all the things they do for the school and the community," PMMS principal Debbie Gilbert said. "They do a ton for the school and it's great to invite them out for some food and to meet our kids."

The good deeds of the police officers can sometimes go unnoticed so for those who showed up to eat some delicious lunch, this gratitude meant a lot.

"It's a very nice and touching way to show their support for law enforcement," Cpl. Robert Snider said. "This community means a lot to me. I grew up here and I love this small town and close-knit community. Everybody looks out for everybody else and it's a great place to live."

"This community means everything to me," Sgt. John Snider said. "It's my home and I love it. Being invited by the middle school for lunch shows how much they appreciate us and it's real touching."

While the force gets to enjoy some good home cookin', the kids learn a valuable lesson as well. Many students met the officers and were able to see the people behind the badge.

"Sometimes the police can intimidate kids," Gilbert explained. "Now a healthy intimidation is needed when police come to your school, but they also need to know they are friendly and real people and you can talk to them."

From all of us here at BVCPS, we want to thank our police men and women for all they do!
